Global Mission

Mennonite Brethren Mission & Service International

Mennonite Brethren Mission and Service International (MBMSI) is the global mission agency of the Mennonite Brethren church in Canada and the United States. As followers of Jesus, we join in His ONE mission. MBMS International works with Mennonite Brethren churches to make disciples and plant churches global.

Mission is in the DNA of Mennonite Brethren. Our ONE MISSION is transforming lives in mission. The call to go and make disciples of the nations is clear and MBMSI is responding through holistic church planting that transforms communities. Currently new missionary teams for France, North Africa, North Thailand, Japan and Central Asia are being discerned.

In the last year, we have been inviting a record number of people to pray, to go, and to support our efforts to share a holistic witness bringing spiritual, emotional, social and physical transformation to lives, families and communities among least reached people groups in over 40 countries. We believe the most effective way to transform communities is to plant churches that bring His Kingdom to the least reached.

Short and Long Term Mission
MBMSI provides long-term missionary opportunities as well as three short-term options. SOAR, ACTION and TREK programs are geared for teens and young adults for a period of 3 weeks to 10 months. DMI is a program for adults to serve in an evangelism ministry in countries for one to two weeks.

MBMSI is mobilizing churches through intentional discipleship in experiential mission. By coordinating the sending of short-term teams with the needs and direction of our long term teams, all our ministries directly impact our commitment to holistically plant churches that transform communities.

Mobilization distinctives

  • We mobilize regionally. We believe that short and long term teams are mobilized and supported in close relationship with one of our five Regional Mobilizers.
  • We move in teams. We believe in church planting through healthy teams walking in interdependence and the gifts and fruit of the Spirit.
  • We go in short and long term assignments. We believe short term mission teams should serve alongside long term holistic church planting teams.
  • We serve prepared. We believe pre-assignment training and post-assignment debrief are essential to life transformation and effective mission.

MBMSI CORE VALUES

Dependency on Jesus
We desire that Jesus be at the center of all we are and do. We have committed ourselves to regular seasons of listening prayer and intercession. Rather than rely on human reasoning, we desire to be a living organism that humbly submits and responds to the Spirit’s voice.

Risk-Taking Obedience
In harmony with this spirit of dependence, we want to prayerfully accept all that God has on his kingdom agenda for our missionary team. This will entail stepping out in faith and moving forward prior to a complete understanding of the Spirit’s direction. We desire to listen to God and each other, obey promptly, and trust God for his provision (personnel, finances, and strategic direction). Our present era calls for missionaries who are willing to give their lives for the cause of the kingdom. Our generation cries out for missionaries willing to incarnate the life and values of Jesus no matter what the cost. Nothing less will do.

Transforming Community
We believe Jesus calls us into a community that is being transformed as we serve God, each other and the world around us. Our relationships with each other testify to the reality of Christ’s presence in our lives.

Relational Integrity
We value truth and love in our relationships with our staff and each other. We value relational integrity that is supported by loving accountability, trust, and mutual respect. We will encourage open discussion and dialogue with each other in the decision making process. Once a decision is made we will publicly support that decision and the unity of the overall team.

Celebration
We desire to live for God’s glory. One of the ways we glorify God is by celebrating each others accomplishments and service. The joy of God is our strength in all things.
