This district is comprised of 6 churches in western North Carolina.
These six churches, located in the Appalachian mountains of Western North Carolina, share a rich history of overcoming racial barriers and working together to achieve the goals to which God has called them. They serve as a unique and powerful example of diversity in the faith community and striving to be ONE family.
Work is underway on a new multi-purpose building to be shared by the NCMB conference and the Bushtown Church. The vision in North Carolina is growing!
An active youth ministry in the district is led by Pastor Chris Eidse. Various activities, outings, trips, Vacations Bible Schools and even a Men’s and Boy’s camping trip are planned for the summer. Many of the youth outings, called Chris’s Adventures, are meant to be good physical exercise out in nature and will always include devotions.
Sunday Night Live: SNL is an evening service for the “young at heart”. All ages are welcome to this service which has a “young feel” to it. The services include good music, a powerful message, and an offering.
What an exciting time to a part of the North Carolina Mennonite Brethren District. All of our churches are experiencing growth, whether it be spiritual or numerical, we are seeing the hand of God move. This year we have been focusing on making our churches more healthly in two ways, spiritual and physically. In terms of spiritual health, the NCD made two pastoral changes last September that has improved the Boone and Laytown churches tremendously. Pastor Morris Hatton (Boone) and Pastor Fred Howell (Laytown) are working very hard with local congregations to move their churches in the right direction.
The WestEnd and Beechbottom Churches have undergone restoration to improve their sanctuaries and fellowship halls. These changes have been great additions to each church. Our Darby Church is one of our smallest, but has one of our better Sunday School programs. Lead teacher David Hatton and Deacon Roger Hendrix team up to teach attendees the ways of Jesus Christ.
We are so thankful for the support of the entire district and the USMBC on the new building project being led by the Bushtown MB Church. The Bushtown Church will be sharing the multi purpose building as their new church. The building will also be the district building and will be used heavily by our youth under the leadership of Chris Eidse, district Youth Pastor. The Bushtown Church will be changing its name to “The Life Center”, TLC for short. The project has had some difficulty in working through city and county building codes. We are all hopeful for a ground breaking ceremony very soon. This 10,144 sq. ft. building will be the first family life center/church, located on 15.7 acres with lots of room to grow. Please continue to pray for the completion of this project and that God will continue to provide resources.
